We are 50 weeks away till the re-opening of Globe Theatre at MacCorquodale Place!
With less than a year to go till Globe Theatre re-opens at 1801 Scarth Street, we wanted to share the latest project update as of December 2023.
Read on for a project report from Bob Friesen, our Project Manager.
After so much time and work preparing the building for the new design, it’s very exciting to see the theatre in the round taking shape!
The Globe Theatre Project is progressing and is on target for completion in late 2024, anticipating a Christmas Show Opening in the new main theatre. In mid 2024 the Globe Theatre Staff will begin work on site to start their building systems operational training. The architect, engineers, Construction Manager, and Sub-Trades for the project are committed to completion of the work as noted above.
The work completed to date includes asbestos abatement, demolition, piling, structural steel, structural floor and roof remediation, scaffold removal from interior, trap floor form, theatre seat rakers and platforms, service elevator, stud wall framing, catwalk, sound baffles, roofing, HVAC rooftop units as well as mechanical and electrical rough-ins.
Tenders have been received for Audio Visual systems and Theatrical Lighting. The process of finalizing these proposals is well underway. We are anticipating the shop drawing and approval process to be completed in early 2024, which will facilitate timely delivery and installation of the systems.
Ongoing interior work over the next few months includes drywall, acoustics, doors/frames and hardware, finishes such as tile/paint/carpet, passenger elevators installation, security systems, food and beverage systems, millwork, subfloor installation as well as mechanical and electrical work.
Globe Theatre intends to replace the deteriorated and non-conforming existing entry stairs and ramp with a new design. The Globe, architects, and contractor are working closely with the City of Regina as this element is on the Scarth Street right of way.
